CSA - Week One

Don't you just love the look of fresh produce! My taste buds are dancing just looking at the photo above, let alone knowing that all of that goodness is sitting in my kitchen.

My first CSA pick-up has come and gone and I am looking forward to my weekly trips to the farm. I was greeted by Leann, the founder, and given two canvas bags that are mine with my membership! She welcomed me and walked me through what to do.

I love that each week they provide newsletters with what produce to pick up as well as recipe ideas for the produce of the week! Although I tend to be creative in the kitchen, I can see where this would be super helpful for those that wouldn't know what to do with something.

Here's what I'm working with this week: 3 slicing tomatoes, 3 cucumbers, 1 head of cabbage, 3 patty pan summer squash, 1 bag of beans, 1 bag of cherry tomatoes

And, I receive fruit every other week and this week was also fruit: 1 mini yellow meat watermelon, 6 pluots (hybrid of a plum and apricot), and 6 gala apples.

It will be interesting to see how much supplementing I'll have to do. The fruit will last me a week, not two and it seems that the veggies will last a few meals but not a week's worth. I have to admit that until I joined I didn't know how much a half-share would be except that it should supposedly feed 1 vegetarian. Time will tell!!
